in the heart of san francisco. good evening, i'm annette. breaking news on the peninsula after two people, including a two-year-old child, were shot in menlo park. the victims were at a mcdonald's in east palo alto. don knapp picks up the story from there. don. >> reporter: we're on willow road. this is where the shooting occurred. probably the traffic lights of the intersection. as we understand it, two vehicles were at the intersection, an altercation ensued, a gun reached out the window and started firing into the other vehicle, quite a few shots were fired and right now, we can hear from the commander to tell us what happened. >> at this point, the two victims are at stanford hospital, they're in stable condition. my understanding is that the injuries to the child are wounds to the legs and a graze to the head. the mother is also wounds to the legs. they are all in stable condition. they are nonlife threatening injuries at this time. >> as we understand it, the shooting occurred here and the victim's vehicle drove like mad over to the east palo alto area where the mcdonald's is and

is steps away from where kevin collins disappeared in 1984. >> reporter: san francisco police are expected to release the name and the photo of the man who used to live in this house on masonic. he is longer alive but was a person of interest in the kevin collins. he was questioned after kevin vanished. he had an allah lib by -- alabi. the medical examiner believes the remains that they did found here are that of an animal. the last person kevin collins was talking to was a tall blond man with a big dog -- big dog. the man described like that used to live here. the dogs were never used in the initial search. so that's they came back. >> i just hope there's closure for the family members. very sad story. >> reporter: neighbors we talk to say the school kevin attended st. agnes never recovered after the disappearance, closing a few years later. >> right after that, st. agnes started to pull some of their children out of the school. >> it's concerning. >> reporter: this morning, neighbors are really just amazed that this case has resurfaced. kevin's mother says she feels numb and doesn't know

sunday. san francisco city leaders are considering tough measures to keep 49er fans in line during the big game. ktvu paul chambers joins us live to tell us some of the proposals that are being proposed. paul. >> good morning, brian. city officials know people will be out and about drinking. they just want establishments and people to act more responsiblely. we have seen the video of vandals going wild after a giants world series victory. in an effort to prevent something like this happening again they will tour these areas hit by vandals and discuss the city's plan. it will be hopefully effective as last week after the niners game on super bowl sunday. they will have 450-500 officers on the streets. that is three times the normal amount on a sunday. also if that weren't enough fire marshals will come along to keep the peace. closing down bars that will be overcrowded or too rowdy. >> inside the bar where people drink too much. a fight starts, somebody gets stabbed. we don't want that to happen. >> reporter: one major part of the city's plan may be coroversial. mayor lee wants bars

dig up the concrete floor of a garage in san francisco as investigators revisit a cold case of a missing boy. good evening i'm frank somerville. >> and i'm julie haener. the case of a missing boy is back in the news tonight. kevin collins was on his way home from practice when he vanished. healther holmes has been tucking with family members but we begin with amber lee where today's search took place. amber. >> reporter: julie the 12 hour search ended at about 6:30 tonight. kevin collins was last seen standing at a bus stop right where i am. and the search took place across the street outside blue home with the white trim. a police source characterized this as a quote check box investigation to revisit all suspects and leads from the kevin collins case. one neighbor who's the mother of two children tells us she's unsettled by the search. >> what's your reaction as a mom. >> terrifying. especially in your own neighborhood. i mean it was a long time ago but i think in everyone's mind there's always a fear. >> reporter: san francisco police set up a search headquarters. >> they
>>> workers dig up the concrete floor of a garage in san francisco as investigators revisit a cold case of a missing boy. good evening i'm frank somerville. >> and i'm julie haener. the case of a missing boy is back in the news tonight. kevin collins was on his way home from practice when he vanished. healther holmes has been tucking with family members but we begin with amber lee where today's search took place. amber. >> reporter: julie the 12 hour search ended at about 6:30 tonight. kevin collins was last seen standing at a bus stop right where i am. and the search took place across the street outside blue home with the white trim. a police source characterized this as a quote check box investigation to revisit all suspects and leads from the kevin collins case. one neighbor who's the mother of two children tells us she's unsettled by the search. >> what's your reaction as a mom. >> terrifying. especially in your own neighborhood. i mean it was a long time ago but i think in everyone's mind there's always a fear. >> reporter: san francisco police set up a search headquarters. >>
